ABOUT

ABOUT DR. LAROSE

Philosophy â€‹

Modern psychiatry often focuses on relieving symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, and depression through medication. Many psychiatric medications are effective, and some are truly life-saving. Medication can play an essential role when symptoms interfere with daily functioning. However, medications alone are not a complete solution.

Lasting mental health comes from understanding and addressing the underlying causes of mental illness. By exploring and working through these root issues, treatment moves beyond symptom management toward genuine healing. Mental health supports a meaningful, engaged life—one that embraces the full range of human emotions we evolved to experience, including sadness, fear, anger, joy, surprise, and happiness.

My treatment approach is holistic, individualized and evidence-based. I view each patient as a whole person, not a collection of symptoms. Together, we may evaluate whether medical conditions, hormonal imbalances, or nutritional deficiencies are contributing to your symptoms. We can explore personal history and patterns that may have led to maladaptive coping strategies such as unhealthy relationships, perfectionism, workaholism, or substance use.

Treatment integrates evidence-based practices from positive psychology and mind–body medicine. This may include cultivating mindfulness, resilience, self-compassion, gratitude, and forgiveness. We work to develop practical skills that support well-being, such as meditation, somatic practices, movement, exercise, and restorative self-care.

Care is collaborative and goal-oriented. Together, we clarify what a more fulfilling life looks like for you—whether that involves improving relationships, finding meaningful work, spending time in nature, nourishing your body, creating space for rest and play, or reconnecting with your values. When appropriate, medications and supplements may be thoughtfully initiated or adjusted to support your overall well-being, always tailored to your individual needs.

Potential Patients

I offer comprehensive psychiatric services for adults ages 22 and older. I work with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, bipolar disorder, ADHD, and substance abuse.

My patients come from diverse backgrounds and life paths, including scientists, healthcare professionals (physicians, nurses, therapists), educators, state employees, parents, graduate students, entrepreneurs, legal professionals, and others seeking thoughtful, personalized mental healthcare.

I am licensed to practice medicine in New York and Massachusetts. In-person appointments are available at my office outside of Albany, New York. I also offer secure virtual visits for individuals living outside the Capital Region of New York and for those residing in Massachusetts.

Please see the Services section for details about becoming a patient.  The initial appointment is a consultation and we will determine if this is the best practice setting for you.

Due to the limitation of being an outpatient, part-time, solo practitioner, I do not offer urgent or emergency visits at this time. I cannot safely work with individuals with acute suicidal intentions or those with acute psychosis. I also cannot work with individuals who have severe substance use disorders who are in need of medical detoxification. Please go to your nearest Emergency Department, call 911 or call/text 988, the Suicide and Crisis Hotline, to get immediate help. You can also call the Albany County Mobile Crisis team 518-549-6500.

Between stimulus & response there is a space.

In that space is our power to choose our response.

In our response lies our growth & our freedom.
