Services
Holistic Psychiatry is a whole person centered bio-psycho-social treatment that includes looking at medical, psychological, social, and lifestyle factors that affect health. It uses regular psychiatric tools based on Allopathic Medicine and adds to the toolbox with Complementary and Alternative Medicine which includes mindfulness, movement, supplements, and lifestyle modification.
I addresses the whole person, body, mind and spirit. My goal is to help you identify where you can make changes in your life and give you tools that help you heal yourself.
What is Holistic
Psychiatry?
Holistic Psychiatry Intake
After our initial phone call to determine if it is safe and if I can potentially meet your needs in the outpatient setting, I will schedule your 75 minute initial consultation appointment. I will ask you to fill out intake forms and submit them through a secure patient portal. You can also fax over any recent lab work or bring it into your appointment. During the visit we will conduct a full psychiatric evaluation and determine together if this will be a good treatment setting for your mental health conditions.
Cost $500
Medication Management with Brief Psychotherapy - Insurance based
A part of my practice includes General Psychiatry with brief psychotherapy through insurance.
I am currently accepting CDPHP commercial insurance.
Intakes are scheduled for 45 minutes and follow ups are typically scheduled for 25 minutes.
I can create superbills for those who want to submit an out of network provider claim themselves.
I do not accept Medicare, Medicaid, or Worker's Compensation.
Holistic Psychiatry Follow up
Following up visits will focus on further assessment and addressing your specific goals. These can include talk therapy, lifestyle interventions, and medications if needed. I will also order appropriate tests such as thyroid function, nutritional markers, and metabolic markers. Follow up visits can be standard (25 minutes) or longer (50 minutes) depending on your preference. Our meetings will likely take place more often during the beginning of your treatment and get adjusted as time goes on depending on your needs.
Cost $250 (25min)
$375 (50min)
Coaching
If you are not struggling with mental illness but find yourself stuck or in a transition and need a little help, I am happy to be your Wellness Coach. Depending on your needs we can focus on small goals or large including working on decreasing/stopping maladaptive habits, starting healthy habits, or leaving harmful relationships or work environments.
Visits are typically scheduled for 45 minutes.
Cost $300
Consultation
If you currently work with a provider that is a good fit for your needs, but you would like to clarify your diagnosis and/or refresh your treatment framework, I can do a general consultation and write up my recommendations for you to share with your current provider.
This can include psychiatric and medical record review.
Cost $300 per hour
No-Shows and Cancellations
No-shows and late cancellations will incur a fee if this is not due to illness or other extenuating circumstance.
Multiple no-shows or late cancellations may result in a pause to your treatment until you can devote more time to your mental health.
How can I specifically help?
These are the services I provide:
General Psychiatry
Full psychiatry assessment and treatment planning which can include starting or stopping psychiatric medications if needed. My personal philosophy regarding psychiatry is that we as a society rely on quick fixes without looking at long term implications. I tend to use minimal effective doses of medications. I tend to try alternatives to medications before adding medications. I have experience in getting people off of benzodiazepines and antidepressants which can have significant withdrawal symptoms.
Assessing whether there are medical issues that may affect your mood and function. Collaborating with your other medical providers to make sure that your physical problems are being adequately treated.
Assessing hormone, nutrition and vitamin levels. I can address nutritional and vitamin deficiencies with high quality supplements. I can make referrals for hormonal replacement therapy if needed.
Ordering pharmacogenetics testing through Genomind or Genesight to help inform medication choices that are more safe and effective given your specific genetic profile.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapeutic techniques I can provide include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic, interpersonal, mindfulness based, motivational interviewing, positive psychology and somatic psychotherapies. My psychotherapeutic orientation is present focused but past informed. I am familiar with a variety of psychotherapies but can also refer you to other providers if you need a therapy that I am not extensively trained in such as EMDR. I will collaborate with your therapist if you want to continue with your current psychotherapist and focus on my other services during your work with me.
Mindfulness, Meditation and Yoga
Mental problems often arise from ruminating on the past (depression) or worrying about the future (anxiety). Mindfulness skills can help you learn to come back to the present moment. Living in the present moment is the only way to take full advantage of your life. Meditation can also help with relaxation, insomnia and anxiety attacks.
The mind-body connection and embodiment is an aspect of mental health that is often ignored by regular psychiatric treatment. Humans beings are animals, we do not only have these incredible minds but also really awesome bodies to explore the world. The pressures of modern life, mentally demanding jobs, hectic schedules and constant stimulation can make us disconnect from our senses and our bodies. When we disconnect we can lose sight of our physical presence, our emotions and our intuition. This can lead to overwork, pain, a feeling of being numbed out, or not feeling alive. Yoga and mindfulness can help ground you back into your body. These modalities can make you more aware of your emotions and reconnect with yourself. I can help you learn Mindfulness and Yoga skills in session, give you handouts and provide resources that can help your symptoms. I can also refer you to one-on-one yoga providers who are PTSD informed and who offer other mind body therapies to take your treatment to the next level.
Supplements and Herbs
Assessing whether there are natural herbs and supplements (minerals, cofactors, fatty acids, probiotics) that can help your conditions and whether they can be safely added to your current medications. I am able to make personalized recommendations for supplements as complementary treatment for your mental health concerns.
Lifestyle Interventions
Our lifestyles can make a huge impact on our mental health. Our modern world does not encourage a lifestyle that our human body, mind or soul needs in order to thrive. After assessing aspects of your lifestyle as listed below, we can come up with a plan to address those areas of your life that you want to change. My job is not to decide where you should focus your energy or who you are as a person. My job is to find habits that may be holding you back or trapping you in cycles that make you feel stuck and less alive. I can help you take steps towards changing anything that doesn't serve you so that you can become healthier and happier. The ultimate goal being more freedom and opening you up to a full and more meaningful life.
Assessing exercise and movement
What are you doing for exercise and movement? I can address what kind of exercise may be most beneficial for your mental health and help you set goals to get your body moving.
Assessing diet
Are you eating healthfully? Can your diet be optimized to improve your mood? We can discuss the benefits of changing diet such as going anti-inflammatory, ketogenic, or paleo for your mental health.
Assessing alcohol use, drug use, screen time, shopping
Are any of these habits holding you back? If so, let’s address them in a non-judgmental and motivational way so that you don’t get trapped in these habits but instead get to live the life you actually want to live.
Assessing your relationship to work
Are you happy with your job? Are you under or overperforming? Is there room for growth in your job? Does you work align with your values?
Assess your spiritual connection to life
Are you religious or spiritual? Do you have a higher purpose in your life? Is it something you had, but feel disconnected from? Is it something you are exploring?
Assessing your relationships and sexual health
Who are the important people in your life? How do you show up for them? How do they show up for you? Are you happy in your romantic relationship? How is your sex life?
Medical Marijuana
Cannabis is legal in New York. I do not prescribe cannabis or medical marijuana. I can discuss the risks and limited research on cannabis and mental health with you in our sessions.
